Junior Miss Pageant 2000 French Nudist Beauty Contest 5.avi
The Junior Miss pageant was a beauty pageant held in the United States. It was created by Dwight Garner in 1926 and televised on ABC from 1971 to 1987. The Senior Miss pageants were similar but with older contestants. In the early 1970s, many countries had pageants similar to the American junior and senior competitions as girls who would start participating as young as three years old, some as young as ten years old.[1] After it stopped airing on television new episodes of Junior Miss were released on DVD from 2007 to 2014 by Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.[2]
The first ever appearance of a Jr. Miss Pageant in Super 8 Film, was shot in 1954 by Roy Carnaday Sr. [3] [4] [5] [6]
In 1951, the Miss America pageant counted among its judges Mrs. Dwight L. Garner, mother of Junior Miss founder Dwight Garner who was instrumental in the selection of the winner.[7][8][9][10][11][12]
In 1989, a new national title was introduced at a separate event called "Miss American Jr. Pre-Teen", being held in conjunction with that year’s Miss America pageant.[13] In 1994 a similar competition was held for girls age 11–16 and called "Miss Young Miss America" which was discontinued after only one summer season.
The "Miss Junior Teen America" pageant was held in 2000, the 100th anniversary of the pageant after women’s suffrage.Votings of the Junior Miss pageants are conducted by members of the National Junior Miss organization. The competition is conducted on multiple levels, culminating in a national level competition with scholarships and prizes awarded to the contestants. For example, at age 11 contestants are eligible to represent their state on an "all-age state level" where they perform on stage in evening gowns and swimsuits or bathing suits. There they are judged on their appearance and talent by expert panels, including representatives from the fashion industry, beauty industry, entertainment industry for example. Depending on how they place and the number of contestants from their state, they may be eligible to compete at the national level.Unlike most similar pageants, girls as young as age nine can enter Junior Miss, but most competitors are between ages 11 and 16. The competition is divided by age group: for example for girls 9–11, or 11–13, or 13–15. These divisions allow for a greater degree of focus on the individual contestant’s progress throughout the competitions as they advance from division to division until they reach a national level of competition.[14]
The first winner of a National Junior Pageant was Jean Marie Lane of LaCrosse Wisconsin in 1939. In 2000, the last winner of her age group was 20-year-old Marie Salter of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. The Junior Miss program is a national organization dedicated to the promotion and fundraising of this competition for girls ages 11 to 15. It is a non-profit organization that provides scholarships and awards for its contestants. The organization sponsors a variety of activities, including a "Junior Miss Pageant" that serves as a qualifying competition from which national winners are selected.[15][16][17] In addition to the pageant, the program conducts community service projects on behalf of local charities.[18] In some states where Junior Miss or Jr. 298eeb4e9f3218
